There are several aspects of this book I like: combination of characters, pinyin, and bopomofo; large print, and use of color. Most of the activities are very child-friendly and should be similar to ones they've encountered in English workbooks. However, I wish the word finds had more support, for example, one activity asked the child to find 15 different colors but only wrote the color names in English. For most children, I suspect they would need to see the color name in Chinese to be able to successfully complete this activity.

I was looking for teaching materials that combined traditional Chinese characters with Pinyin, which is unusual, but the Practical Chinese series has it! I grew up with traditional characters, and I would like to teach that to my daughter who has already learned the sounds of the ABCs. It is very easy for her to pick up Chinese with Pinyin sounds, yet learn with traditional characters with this series. This beginner book is great for my 5 year old Kindergartener. I am combining this book and Level I text and workbook to begin. I am very happy with this material so far!

It's a good material for childern in US to learn Chinese. It looks just like the activities book that preschooler is using to learn numbers and letters. My kids get very excited on such activities. The only complaint I have is the chinese characters used for orange color. I don't believe that is used commonly at least in Taiwan when I was there 20 years ago. But, I may be wrong, or it may be commonly used by people in China. I suggest Ray to take a look himself and let us know if that is something should be corrected or I am just out-dated.

I had bought this for my 23 months old twins, but they're too young for this book. However, I've found that my husband is having great success with it! So it's definitely an easy to use book! (he's a native English speaker, learned pinyin, now learning bo-po-mo).

I'm using the workbook with my 3 kids ages 4, 6 & 16 and they all enjoy it. It is very easy to use and the activities vary enough to keep them interested. I higly reccomend this workbook if you are a beginning student.
