This is a lovely hardcover book with touchable inserts in the animals.
Each spread says to touch the animal's "soft fur" "slippery body" etc, and repeats, "I won't bite" (in Chinese it is "wo bu hui yao", which means "I can't bite" which is rather incorrect for a mouse, ape, hippo etc! And then there is a corresponding texture for the child to feel. Sometimes, as in the mouse it is very very small... I don't know why they didn't make it larger.
The ending of course is the crocodile, who says to touch its..... "sharp teeth!" and there is a delightful foldout set of jaws with very pointy teeth indeed. My 3.5 yr old never tires of playing with opening and closing this book to munch his hands... and this is why to only read it with supervision: the cardboard is adequate but not strong enough to withstand small hands pulling and prodding.
The wonderful thing about this book is that it has english AND both trad and simplified characters with pinyin. So it is very versatile, and even those of us learning simplified get the trad underneath and so learn to recognise it.
The simple repetition means it is easy for a beginner to learn the few different words per page and be successful in reading chinese. The animals are delightful, the adjectives good for adding to vocab, and the end always amuses the child audience.
An excellent book. I wish that this was a series!

This is a great book for reading to 3-6 years olds just before bed. They love to touch the different textures on the animals. The Chinese is simple and fun for the kids to repeat. The pop-up alligator jaws at the end are especially fun as they will open and close if you move the book ends back and forth.

Comments about I Won't Bite:
This book maintains my 3.5 yr olds interest each time. It is a repetitive book that can be read with the same facial expressions 'I won't bite' on each page, leading with great anticipation to the 'I will bite!' at the end, and also pointing to the animal and feeling on each page speaks the chinese words again - so once children have been told a few times of the english translation, the repetition and expression of reading can reinforce the words, for free reading in Chinese without interruption.

Comments about I Won't Bite:
The story line is appropriate for slightly older kids 15mos-24mos. as they will enjoy the tactile nature of each page, although, careful that they don't rip the pages out. If you don't READ any chinese at all this book will not be as fun. Perfect for bilingual parents reading to their children in english/chinese. Wish there was a read-a-long CD so that it can be played along with the book

Comments about I Won't Bite:
I have a 2 year old that loves this book. The multi-lingual aspect, plus the tactile images help little kids to both learn and imagine. I know some parents will want to teach their children in one language first, and then future learning in another, and this is superb for that. The age range is listed as 3-6, but the book is simple enough for younger kids, but you may have to worry about them removing the parts of the page that jump out at you. Great for together time with the youngster.
