This series is very nice. I run a small language education program for children. Non native speaking parents are drawn to this series because it is very accessible. With both the CD and the pinyin and Chinese characters its a bit less intimidating to people who are new to the language.

I teach Mandarin Chinese. I have taught both in Chinese School and in a weekday elementary school. I have used this book in both settings. I find it provides a good springboard for additional vocabulary--each page has a different sentence that one can use as a basis for a lesson -- and add different vocabulary. I thought the names for the friends were rather awkward, so I never used it as is. I had the class go around and say in Chinese "I like my friend___________" and substitute names of their friends. The book has cute, engaging pictures, and I enjoy using it to introduce words, phrases, and sentences to the students. Check out the other books in the Mandy and Pandy series too!

This is a beautifully done book for toddlers. The story is cute and entertaining, and as a native English speaker, I love that it includes each line in English, Chinese characters and pin yin! How rare to find this with the added benefit of a CD to perfect pronunciation.
My only complaint is about the reference to junk food (Mandy says 'I like to eat French Fries' next to a picture of a take-out container) and the one whole page dedicated to saying her friends' names (they are all uncommon English names transferred into Chinese). How likely is it really that my son will run into a kid named Rodney who speaks Chinese?! Besides those two pages (which I totally skip reading), this book is great.

Comments about Mandy and Pandy say, ""Ni Hao Ma?"" Board Book with CD:
Like the concept, but it could be better. The story is based on the author's daughter, so the words are specific to her interests, including favorite foods and names of her friends. Would be improved if the topics were for a more broad audience. Young toddlers may not engage for the entire book, but a good choice for older preschoolers.

My son loves the pictures in the book, and the book helps to build everyday vocabulary for young children.
