Highly versed in topic; our kds LOVE this DVD

Comments about Global Toddlers: Adventures in Mexico. Chinese, English, Spanish, French:

Our three kids all want to watch this again and again in Chinese, Spanish and English, the three languages they are currently learning. They love the real footage of the ocean and land animals (clearly taken in Mexico, at odds with the other review written below). Our older kids are folklore dancing together after watching the real Mexican children do it to the Mexican music. One of our kids wants a mariachi outfit like the kids wear in the DVD. They laugh at the puppet scenes, especially the chile pepper scene and the bean scene. Their vocabulary has broadened a lot since this covers so many different elements (butterflies, flowers and trees, ingredients to salsa, instruments and more). We highly recommend this in Chinese and the other languages and think families can get a lot of use from this DVD.

This is FIVE STARS!

Disappointing: a bit like advanced Baby Einstein

Comments about Global Toddlers: Adventures in Mexico. Chinese, English, Spanish, French:

After reading rave reviews of this dvd I ordered it with no reservations. I expected to see the puppet stars take us on a tour of Mexico: to see the countryside, see where chocolate comes from, see Mexican life, see the animals in situ etc.

But it all seems to have been filmed without going there at all. The "tour of Mexico" is basically a province by province tour of a MAP of Mexico. Basically it seems someone is showing off their collection of Mexican memorabilia: Toy sombreros instead of real hats. Kids in a room instead of real dancers in Mexico.

No, I was very let down by this film. Ie one sees more authentic culture of China in youtube previews for Culture Cubs dvd than we see of Mexico in this whole dvd.

I was also excited about the multiple languages, but one viewing was enough for me. My toddler son has never asked to see it again, unlike all the other dvds he has.

Verdict? Overhyped. Buy something else for the Chinese, and then get a travel dvd of Mexico.

Excellent learning value.

Comments about Global Toddlers: Adventures in Mexico. Chinese, English, Spanish, French:

I bought this mainly to help my child learn Chinese, but to many it will probably be of greater value that many language learning DVDs. Other series seem to cover the same topics, & while valuable, it doesn't give the parent too much extra value if he/she buys 2-3 different series & a high percentage of the learning material is overlap. With this, your child can learn about topics related to Mexico / Mexican culture. The words & ideas are still basic, it will provide more value with more concepts that are "new" in the target language. I'm not planning to immerse my children with Mexican culture or influence, but it would be naive to believe that living in the modern US that they wouldn't be exposed to it. So, reinforcing those ideas in Chinese should be a great plus. Also, this video has multiple languages on the same DVD unlike some other series, so it can work for multiple backgrounds & objectives (teaching basic Chinese, learning English, teaching Spanish & French, etc.).
